---- — The city of Oneonta will begin a drainage improvement project today, weather permitting, on Park and Herkimer streets, according to a media release.

The project, which is expected to be complete by July 26, will create some disruptions for property owners and residents.

Work includes installation of a new underground storm drainage system on Park and Herkimer streets. Both streets will be milled and paved, with sub-base replacement as needed. On Park Street, new curb and sidewalk installed, and New York State Electric and Gas Corp. will replace the gas main on Park Street.

Efforts will be made to keep one lane open to through traffic, the release said, but at times the roads will be closed, and access may be limited to private entranceways. On-street parking will not be allowed between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. during milling, paving and concrete operations, the release said, and parking will be limited where drainage work is being done.

The work is being done by the city Department of Public Service, DeNinis Construction and Cobleskill Stone Products. The release didn’t include details about costs.

Updates about the project will be made through public service announcements, fliers and/or telephone calls, city officials said. For more information, call the city engineering department at 432-6465.
