A Herkimer County man has been charged with felony assault involving an inmate, Otsego County deputies said.
Dylan Benjamin Parry, 18, of Frankfort, was charged Monday with second-degree assault for an incident in June, when he was being housed in the Otsego jail, according to a media release.
Parry is accused of punching another 18-year-old male inmate in the face with his fists, causing swelling, bruises and scrapes, deputies said, and the victim was treated at the jail.
Parry, who was returned to Herkimer County custody, was arrested Monday on a warrant at that county’s jail and arraigned by Middlefield court Judge Donna Yerdon, who set bail at $5,000. Parry was sent to the Fulton County jail where he is being housed by Herkimer County, and he is scheduled to re-appear in the Middlefield court next month.
Assistant District Attorney Marvin D. Parshall Jr. is prosecuting the case, deputies said, and if convicted on the assault charge, Parry faces up to seven years in prison.
