An Oneonta man being held in Otsego County jail has been arrested on felony attempted assault charges, Otsego County deputies said Tuesday.
Sylvester Dorvil, 31, was charged Monday with two counts of second-degree attempted assault in connection with two fights in the jail on July 11, deputies said. Dorvil is accused of trying to punch one inmate in the head with a fist, then repeatedly punching another inmate in the head before correctional officers broke up the fight, a media release said, and the two other inmates were seen by medical staff.
Dorvil was arraigned by Middlefield Judge Donna Yerdon, returned to the jail on $5,000 bail and scheduled to re-appear in the Middlefield court next month.
Marvin D. Parshall Jr. is prosecuting the case, deputies said, and if convicted of the felonies, Dorvil faces up to eight years in prison.
