---- — You will hear more than Peeps at Hartwick College today, when artistic creations inspired by, and including, the marshmallow chicks will be on display at the annual Peep Show.

Artistocracy, the college’s art club, is sponsoring the event. Entries can be dropped off at Anderson Center for the Arts at the Oneonta campus today from 9 a.m. to noon. Judging will start at 2 p.m., and refreshments will be available at 3 p.m. The Peep-tastic Award ceremony will begin at 4 p.m.

“We were asked to help and took hold of it,” said Alexandra Wood,  an officer with the art club. “It’s a good community event that gets everyone involved.”

Until this year, the show had been coordinated since its inception by art history Professor Elizabeth Ayer, who plans to enter a work called “Peep Hole,” a flat, snowman-like Peep, with a hole in its middle.

The Peep Show started more than 10 years ago, after a conversation Ayer had with a couple of Hartwick art students. The discussion about Easter candy evolved into an effort to make art from of the marshmallow confection, she said.

“Everyone thought it was fun,” said said in explaining its longevity. “There is not a single serious thing about it. It’s an event that has no pressure. Its just silly.”

Ayer said she expected to receive 25 to 50 entries. The contest is open to anyone who wants to enter. Students choose a different judge every year, and this time it’s  art Professor Katharine Kreisher.

Ayer said Kreisher has the only qualification necessary: “a good sense of humor.”
