---- — A 75-year-old Garrattsville man is facing felony sexual abuse charges after he allegedly accosted an Oneida County woman while she was at his home last month, the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
Richard A. Schaffer of 914 County Highway 17 in the town of New Lisbon is free on his own recognizance after being arraigned before New Lisbon Judge Bruce Moskos on charges of first-degree criminal sexual act, first-degree criminal sexual abuse and fourth-degree marijuana possession, investigators said.
The 42-year-old woman had summoned police early May 11 by calling 911 and reporting she had been involved in an altercation with Schaffer inside the residence. In a subsequent interview, she reported to investigators she had been sexually accosted by Schaffer.
When deputies went to Schaffer’s home Tuesday morning, they arrested him and seized 103 grams — or nearly four ounces — of marijuana from his home, investigators said.
Officials declined to comment on how Schaffer and the woman were acquainted with one another.
Schaffer faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted of the sex abuse charges, officials said.
