An inmate from Herkimer County was charged Friday with second-degree attempted assault, a felony, after an argument over a card game at the Otsego County jail, deputies said.
Joshua James Carpenter, 24, was accused of repeatedly punching another inmate in the head June 24, a media release from Otsego deputies said. The other inmate, a 32-year-old male, had minor scrapes on his head, deputies said.
Carpenter, who was being held on a misdemeanor probation violation, was issued a ticket to appear on the felony charge in Middlefield Town Court later this month. Deputies said Carpenter faces up to four years in state prison on the attempted assault charge if convicted.
