Bassett names new president/CEO

Dr. Vance M. Brown to succeed Dr. William Streck

-- — Dr. Vance M. Brown, the chief Medical officer at MaineHealth in Portland, Maine, has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the Bassett Healthcare Network and Bassett Medical Center, effective July 1, the chairman of the Bassett trustees announced today.

Brown will take the Bassett helm from Dr. William Streck, who announced last year he will be retiring.

“Since the time that Dr. William F. Streck announced he would be retiring, Bassett’s Board of Trustees has been preparing for the transition in leadership of the Bassett system,” noted  Dr. Thomas Q. Morris, the chairman of the Bassett trustees,  in a statement.

“Finding a successor to Dr. Streck, whose vision and leadership have shaped the growth and development of Bassett for the past 30 years, was not easy," Morris said in a statement. "However, we believe we have found a strong leader who can further advance Bassett’s mission of providing high quality care in a challenging health care environment. We are delighted that Dr. Brown will be joining the organization.”

Brown has led MaineHealth since 2008. It is the largest integrated health system in the three northern New England states with eight member hospitals, three affiliated hospitals and annual revenue of approximately $2 billion, according to information supplied by Basset.

Previously, Brown served as the chair of the Department of Family Medicaine at the Cleveland Clinic.

“It is a privilege to be asked to join the Bassett team,” Brown said in a statement. "The organization is highly regarded as a leader in health system integration and in rural health care delivery, and I look forward to working with the employees, physicians and community to continue building on that reputation and assuring a strong future for the organization.”
