---- — MARGARETVILLE — The old expression “as easy as catching fish in a barrel” seemed to be in play this week for one state trooper, who never had to leave the office to make an arrest for driving while intoxicated.

Trooper Nathan Riegal, spokesman for Troop C in Sidney, said the Margaretville-based trooper was at the station just after 1 a.m. Monday when Thomas W. Jefferys, 52, of Delhi drove into the parking lot, looking to give a ride to a woman who had been arrested hours earlier for DWI.

When Jefferys entered the station, the trooper smelled the odor of alcohol on him and noticed that his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, Riegal said.

And so the trooper gave a Breathalyzer test to Jefferys, getting a blood alcohol content result of .10 percent, higher than the legal limit of .08 percent, Riegal said.

Jefferys was then cited for driving while intoxicated and ordered to appear in Middletown Town Court on Aug. 15, Riegal said.
