Events abound on Fabulous Fridays

Live music, beer and cake will be among the offerings Friday as Oneonta kicks off its fifth annual round of Fabulous Fridays.

A downtown tradition for the past few years, Fabulous Fridays is a project of Main Street Oneonta, bringing together downtown merchants, local performers and other family-friendly events.

This year’s twice-monthly events are sponsored by Northern Eagle Beverages. The beverage distributor will host a beer tasting featuring Goose Island Endless IPA from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Muller Plaza. The plaza will also host live music by Randy Miritello.

A variety of Main Street merchants will host art exhibits and other events during Fabulous Fridays.

Michael Stolzer Fine Arts, at 97 Main St., will host live music by Chris Clark. The venue will be open from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring artwork by Jamie Ormiston and Michael Stolzer.

Art by local artist Diana Cozzens will be on display at the Autumn Cafe, and Theresa’s Emporium will offer free samples and free popcorn.

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society will host its second annual Cakewalk from 5 to 8 p.m. The center, at 183 Main St., will sell raffle tickets for $1 each, which entitle each ticket holder to participate in the cakewalk.

In this traditional raffle, participants walk on numbered squares while music plays. When the music stops, everyone stops on a square. A number is drawn, and the person standing on the matching number wins the cake of their choice. There will be at least a dozen prizes of cakes or gift certificates for cakes.

“This was a fun event last year,” GOHS Programs chairwoman Corinne Bresee Smith said. “For $1, everyone has the chance to win a delicious cake, made (by) a local baker.”

More information about GOHS or the Cakewalk is available by calling 432-0960 or emailing info @OneontaHistory.org.

Fabulous Fridays will continue May 16, with a 1950s-style dance at Muller Plaza, and the unveiling of the first in GOHS’ series of murals titled “If These Walls Could Talk,” an exhibit highlighting the previous occupants of the building. More information is available on the Main Street Oneonta Facebook page.
