Two hunters injured
in Schoharie County
A hunter accidentally shot last week in the Schoharie County town of Esperance was identified Monday as Timothy E. Kelly, 47, of Sloansville.
Kelly was hunting with a relative Wednesday when he was shot in the lower back when he dropped a firearm, causing it to discharge, Schoharie County Sheriff Anthony Desmond said.
Kelly was treated for the injury at Albany Medical Center Hospital and has been released, the sheriff said. The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by state environmental conservation officers as well as sheriff’s investigators.
In a separate and unrelated incident, Desmond identified a hunter who suffered a fatal heart attack in Gilboa on Friday as Bartholomeo A. Caruso, 82, of Schenectady.
He was a retired postal worker.
