---- — Schoharie police seek tips in cold case

An unsolved 1974 murder will be the focus of a media conference near a billboard highlighting the case on state Route 7 in Cobleskill at 10:30 this morning, state police at Troop G said.

Troopers will be joined by Schoharie County District Attorney James Sacket, the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office, the Cobleskill Police Department and SUNY Cobleskill Police Department in a joint media conference.

The conference will be alongside the billboard on Route 7 west of exit 22 of Interstate 88.

On Nov. 2, 1974, Kathleen Kolodziej, a student at the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill, went missing, the release said. Her body was discovered 26 days later, Thanksgiving morning, off of MacDonald and Cross Hill Roads in the town of Richmondville, Schoharie County.

Kolodziej, the victim of a homicide, was found prone on a stone wall.

Troopers handling the case have been working with New York State Crime Stoppers, a private nonprofit organization that is offering a $2,500 reward for information about the murder of Kolodziej. Three weeks ago troopers, along with billboard structure owner Roger J. Mallory, posted a message on the billboard on Route 7 seeking tips about the case.

Troopers said they have received several calls to date from local residents who grew up in Schoharie County in the 1970s.

Cobleskill troopers said they now seek any information on individuals who were at the Vault Bar and Grill the same night as Kolodziej — Friday, Nov. 1, 1974.

Anyone who has had a conversation with anyone who was at the Vault is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (866) 313-8477, or Cobleskill troopers at (518) 234-9400.
