Variety of local events scheduled for Fourth of July

Hometown Fourth of July events are scheduled for Neahwa Park in Oneonta from noon to sunset Thursday, among other activities planned in the area.

In Neahwa Park, the scheduled includes music, games, demonstrations, exhibits, activities and more, according to www.hometown4th.com, and a fireworks display is scheduled for 9:20 p.m. The rain date is Saturday.

Also, the historic Red Caboose in Neahwa Park will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, according to the Greater Oneonta Historical Society.

From other media releases regarding the Fourth of July:

- The Town of Oneonta Town Hall and other municipal and government offices will be closed Thursday in observance of Independence Day.

- In Springfield, the Fourth of July Parade and Celebration will begin at 11 a.m. in Springfield Center. Festivities after the parade will feature music, barbecued chicken, a quilt show, games, displays and more.

- Hanford Mills Museum in East Meredith will hold its annual Independence Day Celebration from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m., an event that will feature a children’s fishing derby, music, a farmers’ market, food, and mill tours. Admission is charged for teens and adults.

In Margaretville, an exhibit detailing the impact of the Civil War on residents will open with a flag raising ceremony by Scouts on Thursday at the Historical Society of the Town of Middletown at 778 Cemetery Road in Margaretville. The ceremony will be at 9:45 a.m., and the exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
