Summer programs offered by Friends of Glimmerglass

Friends of Glimmerglass State Park will be hosting summer educational programs to provide local youths with opportunities to learn about nature. Taught by park employees, the sessions will feature a variety of games, crafts and other activities to help participants learn about animals, plants and the natural world.

Glimmerglass Cubs, designed for preschoolers, is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursdays during July and August. Topics will be Flower Hour on Thursday, All About Butterflies on July 18, Worms and Dirt on July 25, I Spy Nature on Aug. 1, Busy Beavers on Aug. 8, and Nature Artists on Aug. 15.

Wild Wednesdays are for kids ages 6 and older, and are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesdays during July and August. The topics will be: Butterflies on Wednesday, Making a Rain Gauge on July 17, Nature Geocaching Hike on July 24, Animal Camouflage on July 31, Make Quick Sand on Aug. 7, Who Lives Here? on Aug. 14, Animal Track ID & Casting on Aug. 21, and Power of the Sun on Aug. 28.

Both programs will be held at the Nature Center at Glimmerglass State Park. There is a minimum $1 donation per child for each session. By using the Mill Road entrance, visitors will not have to pay a park entrance fee. Visit friendsofglimmerglass.com for more information.
