---- — Two successful art programs at Delhi Middle School will have a chance to shine before art teachers statewide at an upcoming convention.

Elizabeth Wunderlich has been chosen by the New York State Art Teachers Association to make the presentations at its annual conference, titled “Art is the Common Core.” It will be held Nov. 16-18 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rochester.

Wunderlich said she was excited to learn in September that her application to present was accepted.

“I’ve attended for many years, networking with colleagues,” she said. “I thought it would be fun to do a presentation.”

It’s an honor to be accepted both for the teacher and the school she represents, Delhi Middle/High School Principal Laurie Alberti said. Wunderlich will bring “her enthusiasm and her love of art” that she shares at Delhi with middle school students and in the high school, where she teachers photography.

The conference will showcase all areas of art education that contribute to high standards in curriculum development, according to the acceptance letter.

Wunderlich will present the ocarina project Saturday. At Delhi, it introduces eighth-graders to the instrument, including how it was invented. Each student makes their own with clay.

The still-life deconstructed class for sixth-graders will be presented Friday and Saturday. By giving each student a chance to build still lives from the ground up, “it gives them a sense of ownership,” she said. “It makes it more exciting.”

This is Wunderlich’s 17th year teaching art in Delhi. She has gotten some good ideas from previous conventions, she said, and she expects to do the same when she isn’t teaching others at the convention.
