Local IT firm to be featured in Fla.

An Oneonta technology company is hoping to make a big splash Saturday at a major information technology conference in Florida.

Directive, based at Pony Farm Industrial Park in Oneonta, sent two teams to IT Nation Summit 2012, which started Thursday in Orlando and will Saturday night.

“It’s the big show,” said Stepanie Algiere, marketing content coordinator for Directive, which provides information-technology support, both regionally and internationally, among other services.

The summit is for users of ConnectWise software, which helps IT service companies integrate a variety of business applications to help them run more smoothly. The summit is attended by thousands of IT professionals from hundreds of companies, including such heavy hitters as Microsoft, HP and Cisco.

Directive is sending two teams to the big show.

One team will market the company to prospect clients. Its big “breakout” session is scheduled for Saturday.

The other team, the IT team, is attending other breakout sessions where it is monitoring advances in technology and practices.

Directive is a managed-service provider, which is the “next evolution of an IT company,” Chris Lynk, the firm’s president, said Friday.

“A managed-service provider, instead of waiting for a computer to be broken, we provide proactive support to keep the computers running,” he said. “We do maintenance and monitoring and things like that. That way, the companies experience less down time.”

“As far as technology goes, we do everything from phone systems to backup solutions to specialty projects, and then on the Web, we do Web design, Web marketing … search engine optimization, even social media and other marketing,” he said.

Among its local clients are the Catskill Chamber of Commerce and the Edmeston Central School District, Algiere said.

Through software created by founder and CEO Chris Chase, Directive has become a resource for other managed-service firms, helping them to set up websites, market and maintain their businesses, Algiere said.
