Districts move to fill board vacancies

Several schools are taking action to fill vacancies on their school boards.

The Oneonta City School District Board of Education is accepting letters from interested parties to fill the seat of Rosalie Higgins, who resigned to be with her family, effective Sept. 14. These letters must be received by school district clerk Eileen Lishansky at district offices located at 31 Center St. no later than 4 p.m. Sept. 11, according to a media release.

The board intends to make an appointment at the Sept. 25 board meeting. The appointee will serve the remainder of the term, which ends June 30. Letters should indicate reasons for seeking the position, background, special goals or objectives.

At Schenevus Central School, Mary Dulkis has decided after several decades of service to step down from her position on the board for health reasons, Superintendent Thomas Jennings said.

“Thank you Mary for the significant contributions you have made to our community and school,” Jennings said.

The Schenevus Board of Education is expected to appoint someone in October to serve out the remainder of the school year. A permanent replacement will be determined by an election in May.

According to the school website, anyone interested in serving the remainder of this school year should submit a letter by Sept. 20 to: Schenevus Central School District; Attention: Thomas Jennings, District Clerk; 159 Main Street; Schenevus, NY 12155.

The Board of Education will appoint a candidate to serve until June 30. Individuals must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of the district for a period of one year before his or her election or appointment.

The Roxbury Central School received two eligible petitions for an Oct. 3 election to fill a school board vacancy that opened when Tara Poniros stepped down for personal reasons. Edward Dalski and Edward Sanford will be on the ballot, Superintendent Thomas O’Brien said. The election will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. at the school cafetorium.
