Delaware County deputies have tracked down a driver they say left the scene of a property-damage accident last month in the town of Delhi.
Thomas H. Kern, 35, of Walton, was issued a series of tickets after deputies discovered the car he allegedly was driving at the time of the accident about to be sold at auction.
According to the sheriff’s office, Kern was driving along Arbor Hill Road on March 18 when the 2003 Kia he was driving left the road and struck a parked car in a garage, shoving it into a car parked next to it and damaging both.
The accident wasn’t reported until April 12, because the damaged cars’ owners were away on vacation, deputies said.
They said the Kia was towed from the scene and subsequently written off by its insurer, which sent it to Copart Auto Auction in Marlboro, Ulster County, where it was about to be sold. Deputies subsequently matched broken parts found at the scene — such as a bug screen — to the car in Marlboro, Undersheriff Craig DuMond said Monday.
Kern was issued tickets for leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, speed unreasonable for road conditions, failure to keep right and unsafe tires.
