---- — The Oneonta Planning Commission on Wednesday will continue its review of environmental impact documents submitted as part of a site plan application for a proposed student apartment complex on Blodgett Drive.
Planners will meet in Common Council Chambers in City Hall, 258 Main St., downtown, at 7 p.m.
Newman Development Group of Vestal proposes building Hillside Commons, a four-story, 330-bed apartment building near the State University College at Oneonta.
The proposed complex has drawn mixed reactions from residents and business owners, particularly landlords, regarding issues ranging from drainage to economic impact.
On Wednesday night, planners will continue reviewing the developer’s Long Environmental Assessment Form, which is part of the mandated State Environmental Quality Review. SEQR must be completed before planners consider the site plan.
Jeffrey Smetana of Newman Development Group said the hope is to begin construction this summer to build in time for occupancy for the fall term of the 2014-15 academic year.
Planners began the formal EAF review process last week but indicated they needed more time to consider some questions pertaining to the physical site, surface or ground groundwater, transportation and character of the existing community, among other matters.
