Storms shut down several area roads

Heavy rains Wednesday afternoon temporarily closed several area roads, while one was still closed, emergency personnel said.

Starting shortly before 5:30 p.m., I-88 was closed both ways between exits 12 and 13 for about two hours, dispatchers said. County Route 48, between Oneonta and Otego was also closed for a similar time.

Franklin Fire Chief Tom Worden said Chamberlain Hill Road was still closed at about 8:30 p.m. from the storm, with crews from Franklin and Otego highway departments trying to reopen it.

There were other roads in the area temporarily closed from the storm that have reopened, he said.
