Norwich man accused

of fire department theft

A Norwich man was accused of stealing from a fire department and arrested on felony charges Tuesday, Chenango deputies said.

LeRoy C. Burlingame, 26, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of second-degree forgery.

He is accused of forging several checks and stealing more than $4,000 from the bank accounts of the Plymouth Fire Department, deputies said. The thefts occurred while Burlingame was president and treasurer within the department last year.

Burlingame was issued tickets to appear in city of Norwich and town of Norwich courts at later dates.

Oxford woman arrested

on drug charges

An Oxford woman was arrested Tuesday on a felony drug-sale charge, Chenango deputies said.

Kara L. Conklin, 38, was charged with third-degree sale of a controlled substance, arraigned in Oxford Town Court and sent to Chenango County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Deputies arrested Conklin after an ongoing investigation into the sale of narcotics in the village of Oxford, a media release said.

Chenango residents charged with welfare fraud

Three area residents were charged with welfare fraud, Chenango deputies said Wednesday.

The defendants were arrested in separate cases after investigations by the sheriff's office and the Department of Social Services Fraud Investigation Unit. The defendants allegedly failed to notify the Department of Social Services of a change in income or a change in household composition.

Deputies said the following defendants were charged with third-degree welfare fraud and offering a false written instrument for filing involving the amount of fraud specified.

Tammy Lynn Bresee, 34, Norwich, $8,804.45.

Jessica L. Titsworth, 28, Norwich, $14,376.27.

Geneia M. Rood, 34, Pitcher, $4,600.

The defendants were issued tickets to appear in Norwich City Court at a later date.
