---- — Elliott Adams of Sharon Springs, a former president of Veterans for Peace, is close to ending what has been a 78-day limited fast to close the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and will speak today in Oneonta.
Adams will appear at noon at the meeting space of the local Quakers, the Butternuts Friends Meeting in the Upper Room of the First United Presbyterian (”Red Door”) Church, reached via the ramp off Roosevelt Avenue at Main St.
Adams said in a media release that he began the fast because of his distress over detainees who continue to be held for years without charges or trial and because of their treatment at Guantanamo. The talk is free and open to the public and will be followed by a 1 p.m. vigil at Muller Plaza on Main Street in support of closing Guantanamo.
