A husband and wife have been arrested on multiple felonies in a fraud case.
Johanna N. Zanghi, 38, of Summit, was charged Saturday with one-count of third-degree grand larceny, 11 counts of falsifying business records and 11 counts of offering a false instrument for filing, state police at Cobleskill said in a media report.
Brian Zanghi, 41, was charged Saturday with three counts of falsifying business records and three counts of offering a false instrument, troopers said. Each defendant was was issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
Johanna Zanghi has been gainfully employed since January 2011 and has failed to advise the Schoharie County Department of Social Services that she was employed while collecting about $29,000 in benefits, according to a media release.
Brian Zanghi also was aware Johanna was employed, troopers said, and the defendants were arrested after a year-long, joint investigation with the Department of Social Services.
