Family homeless after kitchen fire spreads

The Daily Star

---- — Family homeless after kitchen fire spreads

A Bainbridge family was homeless after a kitchen fire spread to other sections of the house Monday, the fire chief said.

Gregory Eggleston and his children, ages 5, 6 and 9, left their home after a blaze started in the kitchen at 107 N. Main St. in the village, Bainbridge Fire Chief Kyle Simpkin said. Eggleston has relatives in the area, Simpkin said, and the American Red Cross responded to help the family.

No one was injured, Simpkin said after 10 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Eggelston called 911 at about 5:20 p.m. Monday to report the fire after he and his family were safely outside the house, Simpkin said.

About 100 firefighters responded to the scene with Bainbridge supported by mutual aid from Sidney, Afton and Coventry, the chief said. Harpersville, Guilford and Mount Upton departments were on standby.

Crews had difficulty containing the fire because of the construction of the 1½-story wood-frame house, Simpkin said.
