Two teenagers, a girl and a boy, are being prosecuted in connection with an alleged arson fire at the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES in Norwich, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said this morning.
The youths, both enrolled at the school, were not identified because they are both minors, officials said. They were arrested Tuesday in connection with the Monday morning fire that started when they allegedly set fire to a towel dispenser.
The fire was contained within minutes and there was only minor damage, officials said.
The 15-year-old girl and the 17-year-old boy were both charged with second-degree arson, fourth-degree conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a child when they were arrested by Deputy Sheriff Kelly Hayner.
The girl was released to a parent after she was issued an appearance ticket directing her to appear in Town of Norwich Court at a later date. The boy was sent to Chenango County Jail for lack of $1,000 bail, officials said.
