Hartwick College President Dr. Margaret L. Drugovich was recently appointed to a U.S. Senate task force on higher education.
Drugovich will join a bipartisan task force on government regulation of higher education by the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, or HELP.
The task force was created in November by the Senate Education Committee, which said it “ ... creates an opportunity to conduct a comprehensive review of federal regulations and reporting requirements affecting colleges and universities and make recommendations to Congress and the Administration to streamline and reduce federal regulations, while at the same time maintaining student and taxpayer protections.”
As a member, Drugovich will assist in examining the burden of federal regulations and reporting requirements on institutions of higher education. The group will also work to identify ways to reduce and streamline confusing and/or costly regulations relating to this field.
Drugovich and her colleagues will be asked to provide specific recommendations to the Senate committee, and to review the federal reporting and regulatory requirements institutions are now being asked to comply with. The group will be asked to consider the burden to taxpayers, institutions and students for any reforms proposed.
