---- — The newly formed Airport Commission will have an organizational meeting in City Hall, 258 Main St., at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Commissioners are Jeff Back, Leonard Carson, Dennis Finn and Ed May, and one commission seat is vacant.

The agenda for the meeting includes election of a chairman and the scheduling of regular meetings. Other business topics include terms for new leases, city staff liaison and snow plowing of the runway.

In December, the Common Council approved an ordinance to create a chapter in the municipal code titled “Airport Commission.”

In establishing the commission, the council deemed the municipal airport an important facility that provides services to the city and Otsego County. The airport requires supervision and administration on a day-to-day basis and for long-term planning, according to the ordinance, and therefore the commission was established.

The commission will have between five and seven members, and meet at least monthly.

Airport commissioners aren’t paid, and serve three-year terms. The mayor appoints commissioners with approval from the Common Council.

The commission will provide recommendations to the Common Council about management, maintenance and care of the airport; propose use, regulations and fee structures; and propose or apply for public funds or other aid, subject to council approval.

Earlier this month, the council approved May and Finn to terms ending Jan. 14, 2017, and Carson to a term ending Jan. 14, 2016, and Back to a term concluding Jan. 14, 2015.

Chip Holmes, Common Council member from the Eighth Ward, is council liaison to the commission.
