A Richfield Springs farmer died after an all-terrain vehicle accident, Otsego County deputies said Monday.
Paul J. Szeflinski, 75, of 8015 State Route 28, failed to return to the barn after herding cows and farm on Sunday night, deputies said in a media release, and farm employees went to look for him.
Deputies said the accident happened on Walters Way, a private dirt roadway off of Route 28.
The employees located Szeflinski, who was unresponsive, and his Arctic Cat four-wheel ATV in a creek bed 3/10 of a mile from the intersection of Route 28 shortly before 8 p.m.
The employees called 911, the release said, and deputies, state police and emergency medical crews from Schuyler Lake, Cooperstown Medical Transport, Richfield Springs and West Winfield responded to the scene.
The West Winfield ambulance squad took Szeflinski to Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, where he was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma caused by the accident, deputies said.
Coroner James Dow assisted with the investigation of the death.
