Committees to meet on town comprehensive plan

---- — The town of Oneonta has set meetings this week for committees reviewing the municipality’s comprehensive plan, the supervisor said, and residents are invited to attend and give their advice.

Four committees have three members each, with representation from town planning and zoning boards joining local residents to serve, Supervisor Robert Wood said Monday. The committees have begun meeting, he said, and a request for proposals for a survey project has a Nov. 5 deadline.

This week, the Community Services, Public Safety and Library Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday to discuss police and fire protection services, Wood said. The Parks, Recreation and Environmental Concerns Committee will meet at the same time and day.

The Infrastructure, Roads, Water Service and Housing Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Wood said.

The Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Wood said.

All committee meetings will be at the Oneonta Town Hall in West Oneonta.

The review of the town’s comprehensive plan is separate from a task force established this year by the Oneonta Town Board to consider questions about connections, shared services and other relationships with the city of Oneonta.

The comprehensive plan was last updated in 1998, Wood said, and the review was initiated in part to address concerns tied to proposals for drilling for natural gas. The board previously approved $25,000 for the project, he said.

Surveys may be taken later this year, with the possibility of completing the project in the spring, Wood said.
