NYPA plans Earth Day events
The New York Power Authority will mark Earth Day with a weekend of free activities at its Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project Visitors Center. The festivities will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, the free events will feature showings of the video “Wall-E” at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Children will also make Earth Day buttons.
On Sunday, free activities will continue with showings of the film “Planet Earth” at 11 a.m.,1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Participants can also participate in an activity to start their own flower gardens.
All materials will be provided, and free saplings will be given to visitors throughout the weekend.
The visitors center features a wide range of interactive exhibits on such subjects as basics of electricity, uses of electricity and operation of the Blenheim-Gilboa project. It is on state Route 30, 17 miles south of Middleburgh and five miles north of Grand Gorge.
