---- — Thirty-two area employers had displays Friday at the 2013 Job Expo at the Oneonta Holiday Inn, hosted by the Otsego County Chamber and the CDO Workforce.

Rachel Lutz Jessup, a member of the chamber’s board of directors and an officer with NBT Bank, said overall turnout from those seeking employment was better than last year. She said she considers that to be a sign of an improving economy.

More people look for work when there are more job opportunities, she said.

“We’ve been busy” taking applications and talking with people interested in the four positions locally at NBT and its affiliate Mang Insurance.

There are even more jobs at the main office in Norwich, she said.

“We have had a good response,” she said.

One of those seeking work was Christina Eliasson, who is scheduled to graduate from Hartwick College this year with degrees in sociology and business administration. She had just met with representatives of Bassett Medical Center and several other employers.

“I think it is an excellent idea,” she said of the Job Fair. “It shows the community there are a lot of local organizations with job opportunities.”

Eliasson said she is hoping to stay in upstate New York after she graduates and was encouraged by what she saw.

“It’s been busy all day,” said Mary Eggeling, an employment specialist at Bassett.

Eggeling estimated that she talked with about 40 people for a number of positions and would be bringing back a number of “promising” resumes to be reviewed. She said she has attended the event for several years, and that the turnout was about the same, including people laid off and others choosing a different career.

One of those looking for work was Bainbridge resident Dennis Lamoree, 32. There were several employers that the heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician was planning to  see at the expo.

“I am glad for the opportunity,” he said.
