A 29-year-old Oneonta resident, Dominique Webb, died at home Thursday from complications of a seizure, a relative said.
Webb was lead singer of locally-based eclectic band, Guava Smash, in which he was known as Chan$e Money. He graduated from Oneonta High School in 2001.
His aunt Terry Marchev of Springfield Center said he was smart, funny and quick witted. “He was a very kind person,” he said.
“I lost my best friend,” said Hector Reiter, who played in Guava Smash with Webb for seven years. Besides a family that included a brother, mother, aunt and grandparents, Reiter said Webb was survived by “tons of friends.”
He was originally from Waco, Texas, moving to Oneonta in elementary school. Webb was a great athlete in high school, playing football and basketball, Reiter said. He worked at Legends Sports Bar. He was the food manger at Haze bar and made pizzas at Sal’s Pizzeria, all in Oneonta.
But Reiter said his friend “breathed, ate and slept music.” He was an “amazing talent” as a lyricist and a musical artist. The band just finished a new CD that will be coming out in the spring.
There will be a celebration of Webb’s life at Legends on Feb. 9 at 9 p.m., Reiter said. There will be an open mic and a time to share music and poetry.
