---- — Three former employees of a store at Southside Mall are facing felony forgery charges after an investigation determined they were involved in a scheme to siphon money from their employer by faking sales return receipts, the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.
The three-year investigation determined that 25 re-return receipts processed at the Olympia Sports store were fraudulent, investigators said.
The three allegedly signed the names of fictitious customers on the receipts for merchandise that was never purchased and then kept the cash. They also allegedly faked entries in the store’s inventory and sales records.
Charged with second-degree forgery and fourth-degree grand larceny were Samantha A. Bartlett, 23, of 324 Circle Drive, Sidney, and Rocco L. Dionisio III, 28, and Shayla K. Clough, 21, both of 376 Chestnut St., Oneonta. The three were also charged with falsifying business records.
The investigation, which began when an Olympia Sports district manager questioned the legitimacy of 60 sales receipts, determined that $1,622 was missing from the Oneonta store, Senior Investigator Michael Ten Eyck said.
Arraigned before Oneonta Town Justice Philip Hosley, the three were sent to Otsego County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.
