Week in Review: Fire strikes Otego landmark

(Continued)

THURSDAY

A plan designed to spare the Otsego Manor from being privatized never got out of the starting gate, as a majority of the Otsego County Board of Representatives opted Wednesday to instead proceed with the effort to sell the heavily subsidized nursing home.

Also: Relocating police and fire departments, beautifying park entrances and assuring the cleanliness of downtown were among many issues pitched Wednesday night as priorities for Oneonta this year and beyond.

In sports: Mitch Hull scored 10 of his game-high 16 points in the first quarter Wednesday, leading the Margaretville boys basketball team to a 41-31 Delaware League victory over visiting Davenport.

FRIDAY

Just three months after Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, won re-election by withstanding Democratic attack ads, the retired Army officer already has a potential challenger: a wealthy activist involved in the national push to legalize same-sex marriage.

In sports: Those four three-pointers senior Sarah Mannina hit before a big crowd at Unatego’s gym on Thursday night clearly played a big role in the Spartans’ victory. But it might have been two plays Mannina made on the defensive end that played an even bigger role in Unatego’s 54-50 Midstate Athletic Conference semifinal basketball victory over Harpursville.
