---- — The Otsego Land Trust has named Virginia Kennedy as its executive director.

“Virginia brings passion for our mission, leadership, and vision,” Carla Hall-Friedman, vice chairwoman of the land trust board and leader of its executive director search committee, said in a press release Monday. “We welcome her and look forward to working together to connect people to the landscapes we are protecting,”

Kennedy, who will begin her duties next month, is outreach and development manager of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, which has offices in Hawley, Pa., and Bethel in Sullivan County.

She restructured the group’s outreach and communication programs, enhanced its position with landowners and in the community, increased organizational fundraising and managed the conservancy’s successful merger with another environmental nonprofit, according to the press release.

Kennedy has a master’s degree in English from Montclair State University in New Jersey and a doctorate in English and American Indian Studies from Cornell University, where she focused on environmental ethics, according to the press release.

An open house and reception to welcome Kennedy to the Cooperstown-based land trust is being planned for a March date to be announced.

Otsego Land Trust has protected nearly 9,000 acres in the Otsego region, which includes southern Herkimer, Schoharie and northern Delaware counties. It is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect lands and waters of significant scenic, historic and natural value, including working forests and farmland.
