A fire during the weekend in East Worcester injured two people and destroyed a double-wide trailer home, authorities said Thursday.
The fire at 546 Fish and Game Road had engulfed the home by the time firefighters from the East Worcester Volunteer Fire Department arrived, Chief Jim Baker said.
“It’s roughly five miles from the Fire Department,” Baker said. “You could see the smoke when you pulled onto Fish and Game Road.”
One of the residents of the home was burned, Baker said.
“The owner was trying to put the fire out when he got burns,” he said.
Kevin Ritton, the Otsego County emergency services coordinator, said that the man’s injuries were not life-threatening and that the fire had been ruled accidental, but he declined to identify the man or comment further because the fire remained under investigation.
Baker said one firefighter received minor injuries.
Fire companies from Worcester, Schenevus, Milford, Westford and Richmondville assisted the East Worcester department either at the scene or by standing by at their fire houses, he added.
