Tree falls, disrupts downtown power

---- — A tree that fell Thursday morning near Brenner Drive led to a series of events that knocked out power to a large section of Oneonta for 4½ hours, a NYSEG official said.

Power was restored to downtown Oneonta at 2:30 p.m., according to Ann Carnrike, field customer service representative for New York State Electric and Gas. About 900 customers were affected when the tree fell, breaking a stub pole, which led to the loss of two circuits feeding the city, she said.

The pole was inaccessible to bucket trucks, so repair crews had to go up and down the pole manually, which slowed repairs.

Streets affected included: Main Street, Center Street, Dietz Street, Church Street, Maple Street, Market Street, Monroe Avenue, Myrtle Avenue, Otsego Street, Pine Street, Reynolds Avenue, South Main Street, Walnut Street, Church Street and Spruce Street.
