Petitions are due Sept. 3 in the Roxbury Central School District for community members wanting to fill a vacancy on the school’s board of education. An election will be held Oct. 3 from 3 to 9 p.m. in the cafetorium.
Board member Tara Poniros announced before the July re-organizational meeting that after serving for six years, she was stepping down for personal reasons, school Superintendent Tom O’Brien said.
After checking with community members and finding that at least two people were interested in serving, the board decided that an election was the fairest way to decide who would fill the remaining three years and nine months of her term, he said.
Eligible petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified district voters. Absentee ballots will be available from the district clerk starting Sept. 9.
