Gunmen charged with planning drug robbery

---- — Oneonta police said Friday that two heroin arrests made Thursday morning led to charges against three men accused of planning a drug-related armed robbery.

The arrests came following an investigation and traffic stop shortly before noon Thursday after a report of suspicious activity in the Gilbert Street area, Oneonta police said.

Allan W. Stay Jr, 25, of Worcester; Victor Deleon-Natal, 24, of Oneonta; and Jordan M. Krone, 32, of Oneonta were each charged with first-degree attempted robbery, a Class C felony, fourth-degree conspiracy, a Class E felony and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class C felony.

In the same case, police announced the arrests Thursday of two Utica men, Jahari Dejaun Brown, 29, and Davon Sanders, 22, on charges of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony. They were in possession of 25 bags of heroin with a street value of $500, police said.

The police were called when a resident said people who didn’t live in the area were wandering around the neighborhood and acting in an odd manner, police said. Upon a patrol’s arrival, a witness saw one of the accused throw what turned out to be a handgun, then run. While searching the area for a suspect, a loaded sawed-off shotgun was recovered, matching the description of an item a suspect was described as carrying, police said.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the officers had arrived in time to stop a planned armed robbery of related suspects Jahari Brown and Davon Sanders with the motive for the attempted robbery determined to be drug-related, police said.

During the investigation, Oneonta police received assistance from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department, state police and SUNY Oneonta University police.

Brown, Sanders, Stay Jr., and Deleon-Natal were all arraigned in Oneonta City Court and sent to Otsego County jail. Krone was scheduled to be arraigned Friday evening in Oneonta City Court.

The investigation is still continuing.
