SYRACUSE — Columns written by Daily Star Editor Sam Pollak placed second in the 2012-13 New York State Associated Press Association contest in the 20,000-under circulation category.
Pollak received the award Wednesday night at the Associated Press’ annual banquet, at the Genesee Grande Hotel.
It is Pollak’s 14th New York state award for editorials and columns since he became Daily Star editor in 1998.
“It’s always nice to be recognized by a state organization, but contest judges aren’t our target audience,” Pollak said Wednesday. “Our readers are the ones we aim to serve every day, and I’m in very distinguished company among my talented colleagues at The Daily Star who work so hard to produce and deliver a quality community newspaper.”
“We are extremely proud of Sam and his columns throughout the years in The Daily Star,” said Publisher Mitchell D. Lynch. “It is always nice to have confirmation from our peers for his efforts. This is community journalism at its finest, and he deserves this recognition.”
