---- — WEST ONEONTA — A preliminary 2014 Oneonta town budget of $2.3 million carries no change in the tax levy for the general fund but an increase in the highway fund levy to buy a truck.
Supervisor Robert Wood presented the plan at an Oneonta Town Board meeting on Wednesday.
The general fund budget of $1.2 million is down about $47,500, or 4 percent, according to budget documents.
The highway fund of $1.1 million is up about $27,500 or 2.5 percent, with an increase in the levy of 1.66 percent, which this year is the state tax cap limit, documents said.
The town must buy a 10-wheel truck to replace one that failed last month and no longer will pass inspection, officials said.
Wood said town board and department heads are working on the proposed budget, which is scheduled for a public hearing Nov. 6 and to be adopted Nov. 13.
