Don't get spooked -- parties and events abound this Halloween



The Morris VFW Post 1417 will host a children’s Halloween party from noon to 4 p.m., followed by a party for adults at 6 p.m., on Saturday. Both are open to the public.


The New York Power Authority will host Halloween events this weekend at its Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center.

Saturday will feature a Halloween parade, costume contest and haunted hay ride from noon to 2 p.m.

On Sunday, there will be “haunted history” tours of the historic Lansing Manor at 3 and 5 p.m. Reservations are required for Sunday’s tours; call (800) 724-0309.


The Sidney Memorial Public Library will host a Halloween pirate party for children at 3:30 p.m. Monday. The event is geared toward children ages 2 to 7. The library is at 8 River St. in Sidney.


The Roxbury Arts Group and the Stamford Fire Department will host a haunted house in the Carriage House Theater at 76 MAIN! at 76 Main St. in Stamford, and a Halloween contest and party at the firehouse on Thursday.

The haunted house will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. today and Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 12 and younger, to benefit RAG and the fire department. The costume contest and party will begin at 6 p.m.

The annual Unadilla Halloween parade will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium of the Unadilla Elementary School. Prizes will be given to all participants, and awards will be given for first-, second- and third-place costumes. Refreshments will be served.
