Schools to host talks on tests, curriculum
Two local schools will host forums next week to discuss changes in student testing and assessments.
Cooperstown Central School will host an information night at 7 p.m. Monday to discuss assessments that will be administered to students during the 2013-14 school year. The meeting will be in the elementary school cafeteria. It is open to the upblic.
Lynn Strang, director of student services, will present information about the background of the standards, the district’s implementation plan and discuss how students will be assessed for their learning. Specific information on pretests, post tests, state assessments and lesson plans. Additionally, presenters will describe a typical testing day, explain how tests differ, why each assessment is administered and how testing differs by grade levels. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers.
On Tuesday, Franklin Central School will hold an information meeting on the Common Core Learning Standards. The meeting will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. There will be a brief presentation and opportunity for panel discussion.
