Three charged after Rx drug sale probe

Three Oneonta residents remained in Otsego County jail Tuesday on felony drug charges resulting from an investigation into prescription-drug trafficking on River Street, authorities said.

At about 8:30 p.m. Friday, a city police department Special Response Team executed a search warrant at 14 1/2 River St. and arrested two men and a woman, a media release said. Otsego County sheriff’s deputies assisted in the execution of the warrant.

According to the release, Chad L. Trombley, 24, Kevin G. Vecchione, 26, and Tara A. McMullen, 26, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies. Additionally, Trombley was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, and McMullen, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a gravity knife, a felony.

City police Lt. Douglas Brenner said police confiscated prescription drugs, including 29 codeine pills; 15 Diazepam pills, an opiate derivative; 18.5 grams of powered codeine; and nine Xanax pills, a tranquilizer.

The detectives were investigating the sale of prescription drugs from the apartment at 141/2 River St., Brenner said. Trombley and Vecchione are unemployed, Brenner said, and McMullen previously worked at a convenience store in Oneonta.

Oneonta City Court Judge Lucy Bernier signed the search warrant. The defendants were arraigned in city court and sent to jail. Further details on bail and court dates weren’t immediately available Tuesday.

The maximum sentences for the felony drug possession charges range from 21/2 to nine years in prison, the release said.
