Delhi junior Sarah Cummings received Third Team Class D all-state girls cross-country honors from the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Cummings earned one of 28 all-state girls awards in Class D, which featured four seven-runner teams. Cummings was the only area girl honored by the NYSSWAA, which also recognized the top female runners in classes AA-C.

Cummings won the Section Four Class D title at Chenango Valley State Park on Oct. 30, completing the 3.1-mile course in a personal-best time of 20 minutes, 8 seconds. Her finish helped the Bulldogs to the Section Four Class D team title with 28 points, qualifying the entire squad for the Nov. 8 state championships at Sunken Meadow State Park in Long Island.

At the state meet, Cummings finished 17th overall in 21:05 to lead Delhi, which scored 108 points to place fourth as a team. Bloomfield junior Amanda Moreland, a Class D First Team all-state selection, won the Class D state title in 18:55. Greenwich won the Class D state team title with 30 points, followed by Geneseo (91) and Seton-Plattsburgh (107).

Cummings also won the Midstate Athletic Conference girls championship Oct. 26 by covering the 3.1-mile course at Unatego in 20:58. Her time helped the Bulldogs to their second straight MAC team title with 17 points and led to a First Team MAC All-Star award.
