Men's volleyball open play tonight
The Oneonta City Recreation Department in Neahwa Park is accepting registration for its 2009 men's and women's volleyball leagues. Cost is $250 per team, with a minimum deposit of $125 required at registration to guarantee a spot.
The OCRD will host open play nights for each league at the Asa C. Allison Municipal Building on Academy Street. Both open play nights run from 6:30-8:30 p.m., with the men slated for tonight and the women for Wednesday. Registrations will not be accepted after these open play nights. Men's matches run Tuesday nights at Allison Municipal, the site of women's matches Wednesday nights. The league runs from Jan. 13 to the beginning of April.

Legion to host breakfast
The 2009 Oneonta Post 259 American Legion baseball team will host a pancake breakfast from 7:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Sixth Ward Athletic Club at 22 West Broadway in Oneonta.
The menu includes pancakes and syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage and coffee. All proceeds will benefit the 2009 Oneonta American Legion baseball team as it prepares for its upcoming season. The breakfast is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at the door Saturday morning.
Soccer registration under way
The Oneonta Youth Soccer Association is distributing registration forms for its spring recreational soccer program throughout Oneonta's elementary schools.
The program is open to youths in kindergarten through second grade who live or attend school in the Oneonta City School District.

Soccer ref course starts Jan. 13
The Oneonta Soccer Referee Association will offer a course for those interested in officiating USSF matches starting Jan. 13.

Basketball league to begin
The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will start its Senior Basketball League for boys ages 13-15 on Jan. 17.
Rosters are due Monday. All players must be full-time students who do not play for high school varsity or junior varsity programs.

Umpires to meet Jan. 25
The Schohanna/Oneonta Board of Umpires will hold its first meeting of 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 25 at Oneonta State's IRC building.
Those who are interested in umpire training for the upcoming high school and summer seasons should attend. Classes begin Jan 28.

YMCA holding sign-ups
The Oneonta Family YMCA is accepting sign-ups for its winter leagues, which begin the second week of January.

Baseball Hall to offer VIP passes
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will offer the VIP Experience, a behind-the-scenes look at the shrine, on select dates from November through April.
The Hall of Fame VIP Experience begins with exclusive after-hours access to the Hall on Thursday evenings and ends Friday afternoons with private receptions. The package also includes a Hall of Fame Sustaining Membership ($100 value), a library archive tour and a museum collections artifact presentation.
Space is limited for the program, which continues this Thursday and Friday and on the following dates: Jan. 22-23; Feb. 5-6; Feb. 19-20; March 5-6; March 19-20; April 2-3; April 16-17; and April 23-24.
