The second of Unatego's two hits, a single to center by Rachel Mugford in the sixth inning, scored the go-ahead run for the Spartans in their 2-1 Midstate Athletic Conference victory at Unadilla Valley on Friday.
Blake Shelton walked to lead off the Spartans' sixth. She advanced to second on a groundout by winning pitcher Kailey Kinsella. Mugford's single scored Shelton.
The Storm outhit Unatego, 8-2, but the Spartans turned two double plays.
"They played pretty good defense," said UV coach Eileen Lawyer, whose team committed five errors while Unatego didn't make any. "It was one of those games where defense prevailed."
Kristen Elliott struck out four in a two-hitter and also went 2-for-3 for UV. Hannah Johnson went 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Storm (5-7, 4-5), who play host to Harpursville at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Kinsella had eight strikeouts for Unatego.

Alecia Clark hit a three-run homer to left in the third inning and host Sidney went on to a five-inning, mercy-rule victory in the Midstate Athletic Conference.
Clark, who also tripled, went 2-for-2 with six RBIs.
Christina Houck also had two hits and Danielle Gravel struck out six in a two-hitter for the Warriors (10-4, 7-2).

Leandra Spoor's RBI single in the seventh inning brought visiting Laurens within a run, but winning pitcher Jessica Bentley induced a come-backer to end the Tri-Valley League game.
East Division-champion Schenevus took a 7-4 lead in the sixth inning. Nicole Dulkis walked with two out and stole second and third.
Holli Oberacker then walked and intentionally got into a rundown between first and second. Dulkis scored on the play and Oberacker made it back to first.
Oberacker went 1-for-1 with three walks. She hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to give Schenevus a 6-1 lead.
The Raiders (16-2, 8-0) play host to Cherry Valley-Springfield on Monday.

Canastota 10, Cooperstown 1
Anna Sams struck out 10 to set Cooperstown's single-season strikeout record, but the host Redskins fell to Canastota in the Center State Conference.
Sams has 136 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings this season. The previous record was held by Ariel Smith, who struck out 131 in 2005.
Canastota (11-4, 6-0), which is 54-2 over the past six seasons in the CSC, had 11 hits and took advantage of six Cooperstown errors.
"Canastota is an extremely good team," Cooperstown coach Dave Bliss said. "There's no shame losing to them. They are ranked in the state in Class B and we're Class C."
Molly Pearlman went 2-for-3 and Miranda Menhinick had an RBI single for the Redskins (8-6, 4-3), who host Oneonta at noon Saturday.
