May 14, 2008 04:00 am Oneonta High's girls clinched the Southern Tier Athletic Conference Central Division track and field title with a 102-39 victory over Susquehanna Valley on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets went 5-0 in dual meets. Steph Birkhimer placed first in the 100-meter hurdles (17.4 seconds) and the triple jump (32 feet, 11 inches) as OHS won every event except the pole vault. Val Ridgway contributed first-place efforts in the shot put (33-6) and the discus (87-0), and Jamie Bellinger won the 100 (14.0) and the 200 (28.9). OHS' boys also had a chance a clinch a division title, but fell, 95-46, in a matchup of unbeatens. The Yellowjackets' Alex VanDeusen ran a season-best 53.1 in the 400, the lone OHS athlete to win an individual event. Brendan Pidgeon ran an 11.3 in the 100, but was edged out by SV's Anthony Rogers, who crossed in the same time. "They had people everywhere," OHS coach Brady Cotter said of the Sabers, who finished 5-0 and won the Central. "We were both unbeaten coming in and they just came up better tonight." OHS is off until Monday, when the Southern Tier Athletic Conference meet starts with the steeplechase and pentathlon at Windsor. Pole vault: Ann Morabito (S) 7-6. at Cherry Valley-Springfield Laura Kroon set personal-bests in the long and high jumps, and Addy Schneider had a personal-best in the triple jump to lead Cherry Valley-Springfield's girls to Tri-Valley League victories over Gilbertsville-Mount Upton and Andes. Kroon added about 4 inches to her previous best in the long jump, covering 15 feet, 4 3/4 inches. She cleared 5-2 in the high jump, tacking on 2 inches to her previous best. Schneider's triple jump of 33-7 was about 4-5 inches longer than her previous best. Schneider also won the 100 meters (14.2) and the 200 (29.1). The Patriots had 114 points, easily beating G-MU 32) and Andes (five). CV-S' boys also won easily, compiling 125 points. G-MU had 40 and Andes had one. Jesse Miller threw the discus a personal-best 119-5. Brian Sutton contributed victories in the 200 (24.1) and the 400 (53.2), and Scott VanDerkrake won the 100 (11.8) and the high jump (5-8). G-MU's Peter Schmidt won the 110 hurdles (17.5) and the shot put (36-8). Allen crossed in 4 minutes, 57.34 seconds in the 1,600. He also won the 800 (2:13.26) and ran on the winning 3,200 relay team. Will Weinert won the shot put (37 feet, 11 3/4 inches) for S/W, which finished with 59 points, three better than Edmeston. Morris had 32 points. Edmeston's Jared Hamm broke the school record in the triple jump, covering 41-11. He also won the 100 (12.14). On the girls' side, Schenevus/Worcester won with 72 points. Morris placed second with 60 and Edmeston had 12. S/W's Catherine Hernandez won the 100 (13.95), long jump (13-10 1/2) and triple jump (27-10). Kara Lewis contributed wins in the 800 (2:35.56), the 1,500 (5:21.06) and the 3,000. Kayla Forgit won the shot put (33-10 3/4) and the discus (102-10) to pace Morris.
