Delaware League

Championships

Margaretville senior Andersen Morse and Roxbury senior Alisa Fersch earned singles championships Tuesday in the Delaware League Championships at Margaretville.

Third-seeded Morse defeated Windham senior Alex Porter, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, in the final to win his second league title. He also won as a sophomore. Porter was the second seed.

No. 2 seed Fersch rallied for a 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory over Hunter-Tannersville's Sylwia Stopka, the top seed, in the girls final.

"They were out there a while," Margaretville coach Marjorie Miller said. "At least 90 minutes and that's a long match at the high school level."

Windham seniors Karl Goettsche and Nick Porter won their second straight boys doubles title, defeated Hunter-Tannersville's Ken Aurigema and Jesse Vanucchi, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.

The all-Margaretville girls doubles final pitting Jessica Srp and Michelle O'Reilly against Holly MacDonald and Kory Ancona was not contested Tuesday because the teams had played too many matches. Miller said the match would be played at some point next week, but wasn't sure of a date or time.

The Section Four Class C-D meet begins at 9 a.m. today at SUNY Delhi.
