Hartwick College named quarterback Jason Boltus and two-sport standout Christina Evans its athletes of the year Wednesday during the Hawks' awards presentation.
Boltus received the Roy Chipman Memorial Award as Hartwick's Male Athlete of the Year. Evans, who plays Division I water polo and Division III volleyball, earned the Anna Meyer Female Athlete of the Year Award.
Boltus, a junior, led Hartwick football to its first NCAA Division III Tournament berth and a share of the Empire 8 Conference title this past fall.
The E8 Offensive Player of the Year, Boltus completed 237 of 443 passes and led NCAA D-III players in total offense (399.7 yards per game) and passing yards per game (362.4). Boltus won the Melberger Award as one of the top D-III players in the country and also was a semifinalist for the Gagliardi Trophy after leading the Hawks to an 8-3 finish.
He also earned team MVP honors, First Team E8 honors and the all-East Region Offensive Player of the Year, the last selected by d3football.com.
Evans, a sophomore, won the E8's Rookie of the Year award for volleyball and made the conference's second team. She set Hartwick's single-season kills record with 457 and led the Hawks (18-15) to their third state tournament appearance and first Eastern College Athletic Conference championship berth.
Team MVP Evans broke the single-match kills record with 30 against St. John Fisher on Sept. 23 and ranked fifth in single-season aces at Hartwick with 82.
Evans also amassed 58 goals and 24 assists in 37 games for the Hawks' 14th-ranked D-I women's water polo team. She finished among the top 50 goal-scorers in the country. Evans ranked third in goals and fifth in scoring and steals (52) for the Hawks.
