ONEONTA _ Mike Gosse made amends quickly.
Gosse hit a two-run double and a sacrifice fly to help the Oneonta Tigers to their first win at home this season, beating the Lowell Spinners, 4-1, in front of 404 fans at Damaschke Field in a New York-Penn League game Tuesday night.
Gosse's throwing error in the 14th inning helped Lowell earn a 4-3 victory in the continuation of Monday's suspended game, played earlier Tuesday.
"That was a tough loss," Gosse said. "I kind of boffed a ball that let in their winning run. Completely different game once you turn around. You have to put that past you and come out firing."
With the O-Tigers trailing, 1-0, in the third, Brent Wyatt reached on an infield single up the middle and Chris White walked to put runners on first and second. After Ben Guez struck out, Gosse came up against Lowell starter Yeiper Castillo.
Gosse gave the O-Tigers the lead for good when his towering double went over right fielder Mitch Dening. Wyatt and White scored to make it 2-1.
"I won't lie, it was right down the middle," Gosse said. "I just hit it out there and tried to get a couple runs so we could get ahead. It gave us the go-ahead runs. I got a pretty good piece. I'm just glad those two guys got around to score."
First-year Oneonta manager Ryan Newman said Gosse's hit was a big confidence booster.
"To have that happen in the first game can crush a kid," Newman said. "For him to come back and get that big hit is awesome. That's a great feeling for him. He's been swinging the bat well for us all year. He's got a nice stroke."
Oneonta and Lowell, tied atop the Stedler Division with 4-3 records, finish a three-game set at 7 tonight at Damaschke Field. The Tigers then host Tri-City at 7 p.m. Thursday, before visiting the ValleyCats at 7 p.m. Friday.
The O-Tigers are 1-2 at home.
"We had a couple tough losses, especially the one from last night that carried to today," Gosse said. "Obviously when (Tri-City) no-hit us (Saturday) it was kind of tough, but it's nice to get the first win on our home field."
Oneonta made it 3-1 in the fourth when Joe Bowen, Wyatt and White each walked with two outs before Castillo grazed Guez with a pitch to force Bowen in to score.
Lowell threatened in the sixth.
Reliever Aaron Fuhrman walked Dening and Ronald Bermudez to start the inning and Carlos Fernandez blooped a single to right to load the bases. Fuhrman settled down, getting Darren Blocker to fly out to shallow right, striking out Luis Sumoza looking and inducing Will Middlebrooks to pop to first.
"Our pitching staff did an outstanding job today," Newman said. "They did fantastic. It feels good to get that first win (at home) out of the way. Especially with the first result."
Darwin DeLeon (1-0) earned the victory, allowing one run on two hits over five innings. He struck out two and walked one. Tyler Stohr got his second save, allowing one hit in the ninth. He walked one and struck out one.
The O-Tigers scored their final run in the seventh. Guez hit a one-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored when Gosse flied out to shallow left. Sumoza's throw was off line as Guez's slid in easily.
"Fortunately, Guez has some wheels on him," Gosse said. "I'm glad he was at third base because he can kick and fly."
Guez, Gosse and Wyatt had Oneonta's only hits.
Lowell took a 1-0 lead in the first when Ryan Dent singled to left and moved to second when Dening got hit by a pitch. A wild pitch from DeLeon allowed Dent to move to third and Dening to second. Bermudez then grounded out to short, scoring Dent. DeLeon struck out Fernandez and got Blocker to ground out to short to end the inning.

Middlebrooks scored on a throwing error from Gosse in the top of the 14th inning and the Spinners held on for a victory in the continuation of Monday's game, which had been suspended because of rain after 11 innings with the score tied at 3.
Middlebrooks opened the 14th reaching on a throwing error by shortstop Wyatt. First baseman Wade Lamont couldn't scoop Wyatt's throw in the dirt.
"Those physical mistakes are going to happen," Newman said. "It's the mental ones we try and limit. We had men on second base with one out for two innings and just couldn't get that big hit. This is a great staff were facing. I have to tip my cap to them. This second game we came back and our staff did their job and matched them.
Rafael Gil then hit a hard shot at Oneonta pitcher Anthony Shawler (0-1), who couldn't hang onto the ball. Shawler bobbled it slightly but recovered to get Gil at first. Middlebrooks moved to second on the play. After a walk to Zach Gentile put runners on first and second, Shawler got Dent to fly out to center.
Dening then grounded to second baseman Gosse, whose throw to the left side of first pulled Lamont off the base as the ball went to the fence, allowing Middlebrooks to score.
Michael Tomoleoni (1-0) put Oneonta down in order in the bottom of the inning.
